Leaks

Mature wells largely face integrity issues which in many cases deteriorate to pose serious production challenges. Early detection is the key to averting production challenges which may inadvertently require major rig-based work-over operations.
Tubular or casing leaks in oil and gas wells are typically caused by wear from intervention and milling tools, corrosion and cracking, scale build-up or erosion damage due to local extreme turbulence in the well flow amongst other reasons.
Our approach to handling leaks is simple; we detect and fix leaks with or without a rig in place.

Leak Detection

The most common indicator of leak(s) in a well can be derived from pressure communication between the tubing and the annulus or between two or more tubing strings as displayed on well head gauges.
The objective of our investigation in these cases is to accurately identify the leak source in order to propose or carry out the “best-fit” remedial actions.

Oildata has a wide range of specialty tools using various technologies capable of identifying leak point(s) in various well scenarios.
These include sound and imaging technologies, well temperature analysis and flow monitors.
Our sound and imaging tools are deployed to accurately detect downhole audio frequencies and amplitude variations due to fluid and gas movement and spot very small changes to internal surface conditions of tubing and casing with 3D images guaranteeing the accuracy of logs.

Leak Solutions:

Oildata repairs tubing and casing leaks using proven low cost, time saving and quick fix mechanical isolation devices which enable continuous effective production of the well(s). These repairs are done using either tubing straddles (which are adjustable with a full open ID and can be deployed on e-line or slickline) or retrievable or permanent tubing patches depending on the scenario.
Our tubing leak patches include;

X-Patch™ (Permanent)

Oildata’s X-Patch™ is a permanent heavy-duty seal used over splits, holes, or perforations in tubing and casing and are ideal for water shut-off. The X-Patch™ can be run on electric wireline, tubing or coiled tubing and set with a pressure setting tool (electrical, mechanical or hydraulic).

Its large bore assures easy passage of tools and equipment and present little restriction to fluid flow. Our magna-range and permanent bridge plugs and seal bore packers can pass through and set below various sizes of these patches. Patches can be customized for most well applications including premium alloys, restrictions and geo-thermal wells.

Benefits:

The operation can be done without a rig; it therefore eliminates unnecessary tubing and casing rig-based workover costs.
Large ID/OD ratio packer creates larger finished bores than most other systems.
It has high temperature and pressure characteristics.

XR-Patch™

The XR-Patch™ is a retrievable heavy duty seal used over splits, holes, or perforations in tubing and casing and are ideal for water shut-off.

The XR-Patch™ can be retrieved during well intervention operations requiring re-entry to carry out various activities (clean-out, stimulation, perforation etc) below the point of leak. It has a superior sealing and anchoring system. Its multi-durometer packing system holds pressure from above and below it. The Bi-directional caged slip design of the XR-Patch™ anchors packers in both directions and can handle much higher tail pipe loads (long patches not a problem).

Benefits:

Live well operations can easily be tolerated and in many cases eliminates the need for well killing operations.
Each packer can be tested along with all connections of coil tubing as they are run into the well. It allows for removal and replacement of failed components prior to flowing the well.
